Alternate Poker Forum News - Aug 10th 2010 -
The Alternate Poker Forum Is Moving !!!
I'm very pleased to announce that we are moving the forum over to my own server and i'd like to invite the first few (our forum regulars) to come over and join the moderating team to check everything is running smoothly. If all goes well, the rest of the forum will be sent the same request in a couple of weeks.
Here's how we'd like to do this (just a couple of things for you to do):
1, Please log onto www.alternate-poker.com/forum and Sign up (please bookmark too).
If you change your forum name from the one here, please let me know so i can give you correct medals, awards, posts, etc.
2, Once i see you, i will delete your e-mail setting here so that you do not receive duplicate e-mails. We will be using the same forum e-mail address of alternatepoker@alternate-poker.com.
This will mean you have access to both forums for now although we'd like you to use the new one as your forum home.
3, After this, i will adjust your post count so that you begin on the amount that you have ended on here and don't lose rank. I will also award any medals, trophies or awards that you currently hold.
A PM of notification will come with each medal and trophy.
4, That's it, so have yourselves a look around the new place. 8)
Note : there is no hurry with coming over and all important tournament threads and announcements will be made on both forums for the next few weeks. I will be keeping an eye (and posting when necessary) on both forums for now although the moderators will be concentrating their efforts at the new place. For the time being, www.alternate-poker-forum.com will still point here but once i'm satisfied that we are in good shape, this will also point to the new forum space.
Ok, Obvious First Question ....Why ?
I'm sure we can all agree that the forum has not been at it's most active recently and now would seem as good a time as any to make the move. I also have to pay our forum space provider to keep us ad-free and with this also comes many limitation as to what i can do feature-wise.
With these things in mind, i have been taking time to learn how to build forums myself and create this on my own server space at www.alternate-poker.com - This means no extra costs for myself (plus no ad problems at all :mrgreen: ) and gives me greater control of things i want to implement for us all to use.
So What's It Like
Well hopefully you'll come over and see for yourself. The forum has a new cleaner look but also has reminders of what has been our home for the last few years. The forums themselves are basically the same categories although they have been streamlined with the use of sub-forums. The sub-forums work really nicely on the new system and can still be seen and accessed from the main index page. More variations will be available later but for now there is just the APF template in use.
Although, we continue to be primarily a poker forum discussing and playing tournaments with each other, there are some new features which i hope will add to your fun on and around the boards. The new APF Events Calendar is particularly good and will give us a whole extra set of options in arranging games with each other.
Added to the usual features, we also have some extra stuff including APF Dollars (50 APF-$ award when you sign-up), The Virtual Shop, The Arcade and more. You don't have to use these of course and they are provided strictly for fun.

Posting and using the forum is basically the same but any changes will be documented in the How To ??? area. Obviously, if you have questions after reading these, just ask away.
The Up-Downside
One of the things that has concerned me lately is the escalating costs of running a forum hosted on another provider. We really are a non-profit making concern and it would be such a shame to lose all our achievements due to lack of funds.
Now that we have the new forum, all our achievements and results are safe and i'm adding other important threads as we speak. Unfortunately, our posts here can't be transferred without paying a huge cost so although your post counts will be correct, we need to post from afresh. With this in mind......
...the last thing for you folks to do when you have time
As you will still have access here, it would be great if you copy/pasted any of your important posts over to the new forum. I'm thinking about things like tournament win posts which contain screenshots or good starting topic threads which we may want to discuss again.
We have all joined the forum at different times over the years, so i'm sure there are many posts worth bringing over.
There is absolutely no rush as this forum will remian in place for a long time yet. ;)
So that's about it for now and i'm sure you've read enough. If you have any problems getting into the forum, let me know here and i will investigate.
