with reservations for sounding completly schizophrenic now...
The Great muratore Challenge
While taking a long walk today in a cold swedish December landscape (that sentence alone should get your imagination going.. ) i started thinking of a way to motivate myself to play more poker. I feel i have a good game going at the moment, so why not take advantage of that..
Just before i went outside i had final-tabled an 180 man sng at Pokerstars, the way i played that one made me think of a new challenge for myself!
Lets say i invest some of the money i won last weekend and start off with $100, would i be able to play 100 games of $4.40 180 man sngs at Pokerstars without busting my set challenge-bankroll ($100) ?
I will set up some rules for this mura vs muratore challenge:
- Starting bankroll: $100
- When: Dec 03 - Dec 31
- Games to be played: Min. 100 (might sound low, but the state this pc is in and considering December is a busy month, it is a good start. I also have to make some cashes in my first 20-games or so to be able to even reach the 100 games )
- Reporting: To make this challenge more interesting, i will update this thread on a daily basis with # games played and state of BR. An ocasional PoolDemon-styled badbeat-whine-story will probably find its way through some time..
Sounds like an interesting idea?
Would be interesting to hear your predictions for this December-challenge!
- Will i be able to reach the 100 games?
- Will i finish the month with more than i started?
- Will i have won enough to buy myself a new laptop for xmas..?
Start guessing!! lets see if anyone can guess the exact number of games played and/or how much the challenge BR will end on
If the interest to follow this challenge picks up, i can make a post in this thread when i start playing each day. ANd have my fans rail me

That sounds like an excellent idea. I make that an average of three and a bit sit and gos a day. That seems very do-able. PokerStars has never been a happy hunting ground for me, but I wish you all the best.
Let me see... If you're on a hot streak, I think you'll breeze through the 100 games and push your bankroll up to.. $150. I hope you prove me wrong and win a lot more than that, but maybe it's best not to get too carried away just yet.
Good luck.

Looking forward to seeing how this goes - maybe inspire one or two others into something similar.
I think those first 20 games are going to be key ...and that swedish mood of yours.
It's very do-able if you can stay patient and focused enough.
Good luck my friend ! _________________

- Will i be able to reach the 100 games? ...Yep no problem
- Will i finish the month with more than i started? ...Yes of course
- Will i have won enough to buy myself a new laptop for xmas..? ...Ah! that's the million dollar question... it could be difficult if you are planning to buy a million dollar laptop.
You've got the talent all you need is the time. I guess much depends on the early games.
If you get a big cash early it'll be easier but not plain sailing. Depending on how much you're spending it may take 200-300 $4.40 buy-ins to get a good laptop.
Good luck. _________________

I think if you play your game there is no problem with you winning enough for a new computer with a big bankroll left over.
well be pulling for you. _________________

- Will i be able to reach the 100 games?
I would think so. These games pay 10% of the field so your ITM rate should be pretty good. Plus if you win or come 2nd you`ll generate a large amount that will pretty much cover you.
- Will i finish the month with more than i started?
See previous answer
- Will i have won enough to buy myself a new laptop for xmas..?
I`m not really sure of the prices over there. Here you`re looking at about Ł400 so $700-$750. That means you`re going to have to have an ROI of somewhere in the 150-200% range. Certainly not impossible but extremely difficult. Based on UK prices I`m going to have to say no (Although I very much hope you prove me wrong) _________________

as if I'd ever bitch & moan about a great call from the BB there, and of course, it was on jokerstars, runner runner is the norm _________________

Good luck with this. My predictions:
1. You make it through the 100 easily.
2. You finish with more $ than you started.
3. You fall short of your goal but buy a new laptop regardless!
I hope the only one I'm wrong about is #3. Good luck! _________________

havent really had the time and peace of mind to sit down and play these games this week i know they last about 4h if you want to win one - and why start one if you dont have the intention to win it..
this last week i have played more games outside the challenge, smaller field sngs and mtts (as if they are faster than the 180 sngs ) ive done ok in the sngs, mtts not so much.. buuut they are not included in the challenge
today i started a couple of games, played well in most of them, including the challenge sngs, but then i got a bit tiltish after losing 100 bbs in just a few hands
on top of that went out of 2 of the 3 challenge sngs i played and was really not in the mood to start up another one..
and after all that i obv had to take a beat of Pooldemon-esque proportions in the one game i was playing and found myself with 400ish chips pushed and sucked out twice and was back in it again
then...
Click to see full size image
one thing i have found that also surprises me is that... i seem to play better poker if i am listening to the old oasis album whats the story morning glory
..i dont even like oasis all that much...

i havent Really looke4d at specific laptops yet, but i dont think 300 is enough for one here in sweden, not even the smallest ones.
and if i am to buy a new one, i might as well buy a half decent one, so i dont sit there with a small notebook with a 10 inch screen..
i am guessing i want to reach at least $1000 or there about
,,but i am playing well right now, so i hope it continues like this now and i will get enough for a new one before new years
i even win $$ in the games outside the challenge.. _________________

I think the probability of losing the entire $100 was always very small since I'd say your game makes you +EV at this level. So the real question was / is whether you can win enough to buy a laptop.
It depends on the level of laptop of course, but I'd say the odds were against you there. For instance, assuming 100 games, you'll be putting up $440. To win $440 net, which would buy you a low-end one at best, you'd have to achieve 100% ROI. This is certainly feasible over a small sample size like 100, but feasible and probable aren't the same thing. |

That 5th game doesn't count... so you're a LOSER
By my calculations you have to fit 71 games into 15 days... that's just under 5 games per day. No excuses for not doing the full 100. _________________
