MLP H.O.R.S.E. League Game 3 10.02.08 Results

MLP H.O.R.S.E. League Season 3

Knowhen2 wins

~ Nineteen began the all Omaha hi/lo event of our h.o.r.s.e. league season 3. The fixed limit betting format afforded plenty of opportunity for some to stay in hands they may have long since folded in a pot limit or no limit game, or may not even have chosen to play.

By the first break Knowhen2 was in front with 3.3k closely followed by a returning longstanding member shellyd. Shirun and Niti had the weight of the world on their shoulders having 400 or less chips each.

Niti hung on for as long as she could and was unlucky not to make the final table.

On there, Najden (mulletman) was the dominant force and truushot had a healthy stack too. Katymaty was the short stack.

Mrs K-n was out 10th. Katymaty left 9th. Shellyd’s fortune took a nose dive and was out in 8th. Veagsjj made a big fold that had she pushed would have had her sunk, against a rejuvenated truushot. Truus then won a monster pot from Najden that took him way into the lead, Najden left 7th and Brian Wills soon bubbled.

Harry who’d played a long waiting game came through to triple himself up in the bubble and be on roughly even stacks with fusspilz, KW2, Vegas jj all having aroung 3.5 to 4k. Truus had 13k.

Vegasjj found a timely pair of queens in the pocket (along with k7) and made quads when she was all-in

By the second break Truushot had 10.6k, fuss 2.4k, KW2 6.7k, Vegesjj 6.1k, Harry lime 2.5k.

Harry was the first cash winner to go as KW2 took a flyer with JJ52 and flopped a wheel.
Grant moved into the lead as he ko’ed fuss in 4th place.

Truushot ran out of chips in 3rd place, leaving JJ to face Grant with a 12:1 deficit that she could not overcome.

Well done KW2 who came out on top. ~

KNOWHEN2

It was an enjoyable game tonight, 1 bit of luck and a lot of knowhen2.

I have been playing a lot more omaha h/l on line.

Thats the thing with omaha h/l its so very hard to be beaten by suck out luck un like holdem any 2 cards.

Thanks for the game - I find it to be sooo different limit games... I am so surprised I made it to second place!

This game still has ways to go before it will be on my list of preferred ones - but these games sure help.

Congrats very nice play!

Cheers

Interesting comment Brian.

I guess you were being broad with the brush there, but would you like to expand a little on that.

What was your take on the general style of the play.

Players where constantly playing hands & calling raises without any chance of winning the low pot. (& im not talking about Harrys trip Ks late on, he was low stack & forced to gamble on KK without a low hand).
The funny thing is that they were rewarded because there were far too many boards without a possible low hand

There is a post about playing HORSE here http://my-local-poker.com/about2679.html

Its easier if Just show you my quote from that thread

In the Hi/lo games it usually makes no sense to get involved unless you can scoop the pot (win the high & low). & if you are involved try not to chase half the pot when you know you are behind.

So in Omaha hi/lo try to only play when you have a good low (A2,A3,23). So Ad As 2d 3s is a monster
But TJQK, even with some suited would see you hoping that the flop brings only high cards, so what is the point in playing a hand to possibly only win half the pot. Players see KK or QQ & get excited but its not the same as holding a big pair in holdem, unless you also have 2 low cards you should ease back with all big pairs preflop.

In Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo its even more important to start with some low cards. In stud you dont play a communal flop, so you cant be saved with a high flop like in Omaha. If a player is starting with a good low, maybe A23 he has huge preflop odds for the low, if you have KK3 you have your high but no shot at the low, the player with A23 or 345 or (even 247 suited) has a free shot to scoop if he catches a straight, flush, trips or 2 pair.

Ohh.....& try not to play AAA in Razz

Thanks Brian.

I remember Harry passing on to me when I began playing O8, that the limit variation was a drawing game.

It was either Harry or Chip Reese who said it, (I always get those two confused).

Do you think there is value in betting out while chasing a card that completes one of the winning halves and building a pot; or only doing this if you have one half and are drawing the other.
Brian Wills

Players tend to concentrate on the high hand far too much. I'm no expert on Hi/lo games but it makes sense to get one half tied up before you bet out hoping to draw to the scoop.

Most of the time the flop determines the low hand & if you have a lock on the low then you have a free shot at drawing to the high with maybe a low straight, flush or trips etc..

A high hand can often be bettered by someone catching a card, for this reason I would always check call with the high because unless I had the nut low on the flop i cant rely on any part of the low & I probably cant catch a card to win it.

So if I have a lock on the low I will bet out hard, as I have a free shot to scoop the pot.
