Active Members Club Info
For the time being, the Active Members Club will no longer be in use. There is little posting going on in the forum at the moment so clearly it is time for a re-think. Those 20 or so "permanent actives" that recieved PM's some time ago will still be eligible for all our freerolls and if things should pick up in the future, we may look at the AMC again.

Probably a sensible idea. Not really sure why posts and opinions are drying up. Maybe everyone's too busy counting their winnings...

this was kind of the idea behind this weekly tourney. 3 posts a week for a free shot at $200 :

This sounds like a good idea to stimulate a bit of discussion.

I'm an active member, but not to big on chatting and posting. I liked the idea of the active members club because it seems to me that members that participate in nearly all of the buy-in tournaments (and chat and are polite during those tourneys, by the way ) are more valuable to a forum than members that contribute a set number of posts just to participate in freerolls. _________________

I agree with much of what you say swoop and that was part of the reasoning when we set up the active members group. Trouble is, a forum needs regular posts as well as regular players; things sort of go hand in hand.
Being a poker forum, we like poker related contributions; but I've always had the view that as we are poker players, whatever we talk about is poker related, even if only related in a vague way. That's where the off topic and asylum sections come in.
Of course, if you reply to this post, it'll give you one more to your post count. _________________

It seems like a cloudy issue. Over the past few years, I've seen forum after forum attract people who post spammy messages just to be eligible for freerolls, with very few ever stepping up to play even a single buyin. From my viewpoint, the value of adding such members is pretty negligible, but then I don't own this or any other forum. _________________

Fair point Arjon'. When we did the top posters before we did look out for and discount all spammy one liners.
It meant some extra work but that's what we're here for... that and the beer. _________________

I really have no idea why forums like APF don't get more players in their games. When they're on new sites, I can rationalize that some people aren't keen on opening even more accounts than they have now, and at rooms that are unknown quantities. I feel that way myself.
However, that doesn't apply to all games and sites. Yesterday, I played three money addeds including APF's, all at rooms that seem established. Yet none drew more than 24 players. I simply don't get it. _________________

you and me both. we do our best to keep the quality up with the standands and the sites we play - making sure we avoid the fly-by-night rooms that give away free money and then shut down a couple of months later.
i'd love to be seeing 20 or 30 plus for our games as then we'd be able to think about some higher buyins and even better added money to the prize pools.
....well, we keep trying ! _________________

I don't know about other people, but I've been kind of busy with real life stuff. I'm also getting burned out on poker. *sigh* But I am still here and just playing less often. Winter is getting me down too, can't wait for spring. |

I can appreciate that people are busier during some periods, and also that burnout happens, so can't or don't want to play as much as usual. I go through both myself.
What makes it a problem is the small player base. A couple of people going through this at any given time would matter far less if there were more players who p[ayed reasonably often. Even if the proportion stayed the same, missing 2 out of say 12 is worse than 4 of 24 or 6 of 36.
That said, part of me doesn't mind that APF's games are small. There are larger forum games I can play, but as an admitted generalization, they're not as friendly, and also somewhat more likley to have someone who acts boorish or even rude. _________________

I agree, being rude to other players just takes away from the enjoyment of playing. I play with a smile on my face, win or lose. I hope more players learn about this forum and what it has to offer. _________________ A little birdie told me about this site! |

It is not hard playing slightly sleepy but being drunk will affect your decisions and All you need is one mistake. I never have any luck playing in a tourney drunk. _________________ A little birdie told me about this site! |
